Another overnight train journey from Xi'an and we arrived in Shanghai.

After exiting a very busy station, the first impressions of the city were not good. However, once we had arrived at the hotel and had a shower it looked much better.

Most of us took a walk to the new commercial part of the city filled with multi-storey skyscrapers. The commercial district is over the other side of the Huangou river. An underground electric railway can take you to the other side - aimed at the tourists it is worth the journey for the experience. Most locals take the ferry across the river for about 2 UK pence!

An evening was spent watching the famous acrobats of Shanghai and drinking in the very expensive expat district.
