Switch is a card game for two or more players
So many people on the trip played Switch that we combined two decks. The object of the game is to get rid of all of your cards so as to retain the 10 lives that you are assigned
Each player is dealt 7 cards and the remaining deck is placed in the middle with the top card turned up.
The game starts left of the dealer. The player must be able to play a card on top of the upturned one in the middle, else they must take a card from the top and pass on to the next player.
To play requires the player to have a card that is of the same suit or number as the top card in the middle. The Ace may be played at any time and can be used to change the suit that is in play. A player MUST play if they are able to, therefore preventing players hoarding special cards.
The game ends when the first person has lost all of their cards. The remaining players total up the values of the cards that they hold. For every 10 points that they hold, one life is lost. Each card is at face value (with a few exceptions) - face cards being 10 points (1 life) and the ace 11 points.
Once a player has lost all of their lives, they are given an extra chance - SWIMMING!
Swimming has the value of 1 life
Special Cards:
Black 5s and Black 7s - are worth 5 and 7 lives respectively
Any Jack changes the direction
Ace can be played on top of any card (except a 2 that has been put down by the previous player)
2 - The next player must pick up two cards from the deck, else they have a 2 themselves - the next player therefore must pick up 4, else 8, else 16
The 8 must be followed by another card of the same suit, or another 8, otherwise the player must pick up from the pile after playing the 8.
